NEW BISHOP OF BASINGSTOKE Downing Street has announced this morning (22/6/2010) that the Venerable Peter Hancock will be the next Bishop of Basingstoke.
Peter Hancock has served as Archdeacon of The Meon in the Diocese of Portsmouth since 1999. He will be consecrated Bishop at St Paul’s Cathedral on Tuesday 21st September 2010. The welcome and commissioning for his ministry in the Diocese of Winchester will take place on Saturday 2nd October at 11a.m. in a service at Winchester Cathedral in which we shall also be Admitting and Licensing Readers.
Bishop Michael said: “I look forward enormously to Peter Hancock joining us in September; and I ask you to join me in holding Peter, his wife Jane and their family in your prayers as they prepare to move to this neighbouring Diocese and he takes up the exciting and demanding opportunities of this post.”
Diocesan Secretary Andrew Robinson said: “I am delighted that Peter will be joining us as the new Bishop of Basingstoke; having worked with him for nine years whilst in Portsmouth I know that he will bring us a real sense of vision and purpose and will support the Diocese well in our strides to generate new levels of growth and a renewed vision. I am particularly looking forward to continuing my working relationship with Peter who will be a close neighbour based in Alresford and also using the Diocesan Office for his administrative base. I wish him every success in his new ministry.”
